CHARLOTTE REED
Pet
Expert
____________________
INSPIRATION
It started with Katie and Kidder, exceptionally
intuitive American cocker spaniels. They convinced Charlotte Reed,
a Fordham Law School graduate and former securities compliance officer,
to abandon the corporate life and dedicate herself fully to her
true love: them. In 1996, she opened Two Dogs & A Goat with the
mission to become Manhattan’s only full-service pet care provider
– and to make her dogs proud.
EXPERIENCE
As a young entrepreneur in the burgeoning pet
service industry, Reed quickly established herself as a leading
pet care professional with top-notch service, personal attention
to detail, and an infectious passion for pets. Since its inception,
Two Dogs & A Goat has grown from a one person operation to a company
that boasts offices in New York City and the Hamptons, 35 pet care
providers, 250 loyal clients, and countless veterinarian referrals.
TRAINING
Reed has supplemented her natural love of animals
with skills learned at the Veterinary Technol-ogy Associates Program
at City University of New York (CUNY), the New York School of Dog
Grooming, and the University of South Hampton New College in Great
Britain. In 1998, she was one of only six people accepted to the
prestigious biannual ASPCA Companion Animal Service Department’s
Apprenticeship Dog Training Program.
PUBLISHED WORKS
Reed is the Pets Contributing Editor of American
magazine, a national family-oriented publication, where her regular
column is entitled “A Pet for All Seasons.” She is also the columnist
for the new Fido Friendly magazine, penning the “Miss Fido Manners”
etiquette guide. She serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the NAPPS
newsletter and citipets.com, as well as the Pets Editor of The Resident,
a widely read New York City weekly newspaper. Reed has reviewed
pet services for nycitysearch.com, a popular on-line city guide,
and is the author of the Pet Owning Made Easy series. Her most recent
booklet, “137 Citipets Tips for Finding & Relocating to a New Home,”
includes moving and travel advice for dog and cat owners.
APPEARANCES AND LECTURES
Dozens of national and international television
and radio outlets have featured Reed as a pet care expert, including
BBC-1, Comedy Central, CNN, Good Day New Yor k, Fox 5 Live at Noon,
Fox Pet News (network), Fujisankei Mezamashi-TV, WNBC’s Today in
New York, Office Kei Productions and Telemundo. In 2003, she discussed
summertime pet tips as the spokesperson for Hartz ® pet products
and Air Source ® purifiers on a satellite tour of 20 ABC, CBS and
NBC affiliates. Reed is a regular radio guest promoting responsible
pet ownership on syndicated talk shows, including Clear Channel
and National Public Radio affiliates. An instructor at NYC’s Learning
Annex, Reed also teaches monthly teleclasses for pet professionals.
HONORS AND DISTINCTIONS
The National Association of Professional Pet
Sitters named Reed the Pet Sitter of the Millennium Year, inducted
her into their Hall of Fame as the fifth honoree ever, and recently
elected her as a Board Member for the organization. Reed also currently
serves as a Public Member of the New York State Veterinary Board,
which oversees licensure for and disciplinary actions of veterinarians
and veterinary technicians practicing in the State of New York.
Reed’s additional professional memberships include Cat Writers Association,
Dog Writers Association of America, ASPCA Humanitarian Awards Committee,
Association of Pet Dog Trainers, National Dog Groomers Association
of America, Pet Sitters International and the Junior League of New
York City.
